Selfishness versus Self Respect
There is a big difference between self-respect and selfishness. Someone who is selfish is a person who is overly self-centered, and only thinking primarily about their own needs. These people are usually overly self-serving and generally do not have much concern, respect or compassion toward others. Someone who truly respects themselves likely realizes that having fulfilling relationships with others begins with the one they have with themselves. With the joy and contentment they begin to feel, they are more able to give their very best to others. Your kitchen cabinet needs to be filled in order to feed your guests. It’s all about perspective! Sometimes we confuse giving to others with being a martyr. We must have some personal boundaries in order to be a loving and giving human being.
